Energy Security Across Europe and Eurasia
improving energy security development across europe and eurasia
Since 1992, USEA has supported the countries of Europe and Eurasia as they strengthen and integrate their energy systems, pursue self-reliance, and reduce their vulnerability to malign geopolitical influence by lessening dependence on Russian energy. USEA also fostered stronger cross-border cooperation and advanced regional energy networks that promote transparency, stability, and fair pricing.
Drawing on U.S. industry expertise and technology, and its three decades of engagement in the region, USEA’s analyses, technical support, and capacity building leveraged over $1 billion in transmission and distribution development.
For nations in Southeast Europe, the Balkans, and the Black Sea region, USEA works with the U.S. industry to:
- Operationalize, integrate, and reduce the regulatory burden of regional energy markets as an incentive for U.S. investment in the electricity and natural gas sectors.
- Improve the efficiency of power networks and increase cross-border electricity trade by embedding American grid-enhancing technologies.
- Reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian fuel by enabling imports of U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG).
- Improve resilience and response capabilities of critical infrastructure by facilitating the use of American cybersecurity best practices and technologies.
Through these efforts, USEA helps partner countries improve their energy security, resilience, and competitiveness while reinforcing U.S. strategic interests in the region.
