The first World Power Conference was hosted under the chairmanship of Mr. D N Dunlop. The World Power Conference is today the World Energy Congress which is a world class community for the global energy community.

1923

The World Energy Council (WEC) was founded by Daniel Nicol Dunlop, with the intent to bring together experts from around the world to discuss energy issues.

1924

  • The first World Power Conference event was held in London in 1924 with Daniel Dunlop as the Chairman of the Executive Council. It was attended by 1700 delegates from 40 countries. The World Power Conference is since called the World Energy Conference which is a world-class stage for the global energy community to convene and discuss emerging challenges of the energy sector and “to consider the future of energy resources” as H.G Wells put it.
  • USEA was formed in the aftermath to the conference in 1924 as the U.S. Member Committee to the World Energy Council with founding director Jack Siegel. The organization was formed to promote dialogue and collaboration between public and private energy stakeholders in the United States and internationally.
  • The first chairman of USEA was Robert O. Anderson, also CEO of Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) he was an energy sector influencer, he was known for his forward-thinking approach to energy issues, including his early interest in environmental concerns and alternative energy sources.. Anderson’s leadership helped shape the early direction of USEA. His tenure as USEA's first chairman reflected the organization's commitment to addressing energy challenges in a global context.
  • Since USEA’s birth, the organization has pursued a core mission “to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all since.” And till this day, USEA convenes, educates, and provides a non-partisan forum for the energy industry.
  • Following the devastation caused by the First World War, the future direction of the evolving electrical supply industry was uncertain, and the conference aimed to address this.
  • 1925

Following the conference a permanent committee was established in 1925. This committee would go under the name of the World Power Conference, until it was renamed the World Energy Conference in 1968 to reflect the broadening of the energy perspective beyond primary fuels.

    1930

  • The second world power conference was held in Berlin, Germany. The Berlin conference had notable speakers including - Albert Einstein who lectured on “The Space, Field and Ether Problem in Physics”.
  • It was doubly significant as this was when World Energy Council first connected social equity with energy interests, demonstrating forward thinking.
