Summit Power Group, LLC (“Summit”) and Petrofac Ltd (“Petrofac”) have confirmed that the United Kingdom’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (“DECC”) has officially notified them on Friday November 2nd that DECC has selected the joint Summit-Petrofac project known as Captain: The Clean Energy Project (“Captain CEP”) to move forward to the next stage of DECC’s carbon capture and storage (“CCS”) competition for power plants that will capture and geologically sequester their carbon dioxide emissions. DECC made a public announcement to the same effect in London on 30th October.
On Wednesday December 5, 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy released a study conducted by NERA Economic Consulting on the potential macroeconomic impacts of LNG exports from the United States. This study is a part of DOE's effort to inform policy decisions on LNG exports and will be included in the 15 pending export applications currently under consideration by DOE. Bill Cooper is the president of the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG).
Bill has nearly three decades of experience in various aspects of the energy industry, having served in both the public and private sectors. Prior to serving in his full-time capacity as president of CLNG, Bill was a partner at the law office of Hunton & Williams LLP.
Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, he served as counsel to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee. Bill was a drafter and lead negotiator for the Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002 and was also a lead negotiator for the House on several provisions of the national energy policy bills in the 107th and 108th Congresses. Earlier in his career, he was general counsel for a natural gas utility company.
In addition, Bill is a frequent speaker on energy and natural gas issues.
