Dr. REN Xiangkun, Chairman of the Board of Beijing Baoju Energy Sci-Tech Co., Ltd. and Vice President of Beijing Sanju Environmental Protection & New Materials Co., Ltd., is a 2014 recipient of the Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy's Annual China CCUS Prize. In his presentation, Dr. Ren will discuss various clean coal and pollution control technologies being developed by his company.  He will also focus on how these technologies are being deployed in various China projects.  Clean coal project development and investment opportunities both in China and U.S.

Dr. Xu Shisen, President of China Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute, is a 2014 recipient of the Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy's Annual China CCUS Prize. In his presentation, Dr. Xu will discuss the Huaneng Clean Energy Center R&D Program with focus on the current status of the GreenGen IGCC Plant at Tianjin, China, its Phase II Program, and Enhanced Water Recovery with CO2 injection.

Dr. Sai Gollakota is a Project Manager in the Office of Major Demonstrations, National Energy Technology Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy.  He has over 25 years of experience in the industry and government in the areas of clean coal technology development, modeling and analysis, laboratory and pilot-scale energy research, efficiency and environmental improvements in fossil-fuel power generation, co-generation using renewable fuels, international technology transfer for greenhouse gas reduction, and management of commercial-scale Clean Coal Power Initiative and Carbon Capture and Storage demonstration projects.  He has co-authored over 50 publications/presentations in the aforementioned areas.  He has PhD and Master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Auburn University and Indian Institute of Technology (Chennai), respectively, and a Master's degree in Industrial Administration (with University Honors) from Carnegie Mellon University.

David Larrick received a B.S. and M.S. in Forestry from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a Ph.D. in Forest Resources from The Pennsylvania State University.  His interdisciplinary environmental research includes restoration of historic woodlots at Gettysburg National Military Park and Valley Forge National Historical Park, restoration of prairie vegetation to central Illinois, and modelling and management of eastern forests in response to environmental impacts and catastrophic events.  Currently, Dr. Larrick is the Director of the Sequestration Program at Richland Community College, providing community, national, and international education and outreach in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) and Fossil and Renewable Energy.  His higher education teaching experience includes nine undergraduate courses in areas of Forest Resources, Environmental Biology, Statistics, and CCUS.  Dr. Larrick has developed the world’s first Associate degree programs with emphasis in CCUS, offered at the National Sequestration Education Center.

Mr. Smith is a member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society; a member of CIGRE, the International Council on Large Electric Systems; a member of the American Meteorological Society; and a Fellow of the IEEE.  He is a guest  editor for the IEEE Power and Energy magazine, and a past editor for the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy.  Mr. Smith received the IEEE PES Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award in 2014.    

He received his BSME and MS degrees from MIT in 1970.  He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group (UVIG).  Previously, he served as President of Electrotek Concepts, a power engineering consulting firm.  He has over 40 years of experience in the electric power industry.
