October 24 was a historic day for the partnership between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Energy Association (USEA). 

After 16 years, and as planned, we brought the Southeast Europe Cooperation Initiative Transmission System Planning Project (SECI) to completion and turned over the region’s transmission system management to the European Network of Transmission System Operators of Electricity (ENTSO-E).

Bonn Germany Climate talks

Bonn, Germany — The U.S. Energy Association’s executive director, Barry Worthington, will join industry leaders and Trump administration officials at global climate talks in Bonn to discuss the critical role of fossil fuels to meet the growing global energy demand.

The White House and the State Department will host a COP23 side event, “The Role of Cleaner and More Efficient Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power in Climate Mitigation,” on Monday November 13 from 6:30- 8 p.m. in Room 7 of the Bonn Zone.

Ken Smith is Senior Vice President for Business Development & Strategy for Fluor Corporation.  He is responsible to expand integrated solutions across Fluor, leveraging the expertise and capability of Fluor’s construction, fabrication, maintenance, equipment and staffing business with Fluor’s Energy, Chemicals, Power, Mining, Manufacturing and Infrastructure business lines.  He has more than 35 years of executive, management, sales, engineering and construction experience, with over 21 years of experience at Fluor.

Previously Ken served as Senior Vice President, Business Development & Strategy for Fluor’s Global Services Group, where he was responsible for sales, marketing, and strategic planning. Prior to that role, Ken worked in operating and sales roles across Fluor’s business lines including; Senior Vice President of Fluor Government Group, President of the Manufacturing & Life Sciences business, Vice President for the Operations & Maintenance business, and Vice President of the Consumer Products business.

Before joining Fluor, Ken worked in operations and sales positions for Jacobs Engineering Group and Hercules, Inc.

Ken graduated from Clemson University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.  He has completed the University of Michigan’s Executive MBA Program and the Thunderbird International Business School’s Executive International Program.
