WASHINGTON, D.C. – United States Energy Association (USEA) President & CEO Mark Menezes today strongly endorsed the findings of the U.S. Fusion Supply Chain Report published by the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP), stressing that immediate, coordinated federal action is required to prevent supply chain chokepoints from stalling the domestic fusion energy industry.
“The SCSP report is a clear wake-up call,” said Mark Menezes, USEA President and CEO who also serves on SCSP’s Commission on the Scaling of Fusion Energy. “Fusion energy represents a potential clean energy breakthrough for America, but its success is not guaranteed. We cannot afford to repeat the supply chain mistakes made in other high-tech sectors.”
Menezes added that if the U.S. hopes to lead the world in fusion commercialization by the 2030s, policy must focus on de-risking the supply chain now.
“This is a national security and economic competitiveness issue,” Menezes added. “We must prioritize strategic investment in domestic mining, processing, and manufacturing capabilities, especially for enriched lithium and high-purity components. The federal government, the private sector, and research institutions must partner to build the resilience needed to unlock fusion’s immense potential and secure America’s energy future.”
“USEA commits to working with policymakers and industry stakeholders to translate the report’s recommendations into actionable strategies to strengthen the domestic fusion energy ecosystem.”
