Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has been discussed for decades, but today it is moving from concept to reality. To kick off our four-part series with ExxonMobil, part one will explore the foundations of CCUS: what it is, what it isn’t, and why it matters now more than ever. The session will trace the history of carbon capture, explain its role across industries like energy, aviation, and cement, and introduce the terminology and value chains that define the field.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of CCUS benefits, from enabling lower-carbon fuels to supporting industrial competitiveness, as well as the limits of the technology. This session is designed as a lecture and presentation format, providing an accessible but comprehensive overview for those new to the subject as well as a grounding refresher for those already working in the energy and policy space.
