Executive Order on Offshore Exploration could be good for energy, national security

Washington, D.C.— On Friday President Trump issued an executive order asking his Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke, and his Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, to review offshore energy development and conservation policies.

U.S. Energy Association Executive Director, Barry Worthington, issued the following statement on the executive order:

“The review process could eventually expand the areas available for exploration and production of U.S. energy resources, but for now, the executive order simply instructs the two departments to examine the current landscape, a prudent move that I would expect any president to make. 

“It reflects President Trump’s all-of-the-above energy strategy where there’s a role for all types of energy sources.

“It’s always a good idea to take inventory and produce the resources we need to meet the growing global demand for energy. After all, it is the exploration and production of natural gas over the past decade that has helped increase our use of the fuel for electricity generation, reduce the cost of the commodity and, in turn, reduce emissions globally.

“Exploration and production of oil and natural gas has helped our economy, improved our environment, and it has certainly put us in a position of strength in the world. Because of exploration and production, America is now the largest oil and gas producer in the world.
“We applaud President Trump’s executive order which takes a long view of U.S. energy and national security.”
