USEA supports American energy dominance, good for industry, national security

Washington, D.C.—Today, President Donald Trump will announce his strong support of energy policies that propel the U.S. as a world leader on all energy production and development, and supply.

To culminate White House Energy Week, President Trump and Energy Secretary Rick Perry will host Unleashing American Energy, an event to illuminate the plan and policies that will help the U.S. continue on a path to global energy dominance.

Steve Winberg

As Assistant Secretary, Steve Winberg is responsible for the management and oversight of FE’s research and development program, encompassing coal, oil, and natural gas, as well as the Office of Petroleum Reserves.

Mr. Winberg has over 40 years of successful senior corporate management, enabling the development of coal and natural gas technologies for both production and end-use; including emission control technologies, near-zero emission technologies (including CCUS technologies), and improved efficiency power production technologies from early stages, through engineering development and demonstration, and commercial deployment. He has extensive experience working with prime users and owners of gas and coal-based power, fuel generation, and delivery technologies, including an extensive understanding of the Federal Government’s business practices and the role it plays in shaping the Nation’s energy policies.

Mr. Winberg began his career at the engineering firm Foster Wheeler as an engineer on coal-fired utility boilers. From there, he spent 14 years with Consolidated Natural Gas working in a variety of positions before becoming Vice President for CONSOL Energy Research & Development. Immediately prior to coming to DOE, Mr. Winberg served as a Senior Program Manager at Battelle Memorial Institute.

Ron Munson

Ron Munson is the Principal and Founder of Cogentiv Solutions LLC – a consulting organization focused on developing customized, actionable solutions in carbon, energy, and environmental management. Clients include governments, advocacy organizations developing energy and environmental policy proposals, and energy/environmental NGOs.

Previously, Munson served as the Global Lead for Carbon Capture Technology at the Global CCS Institute, where he led capture-related thought leadership and technical advocacy efforts. These included work related to industrial applications of carbon capture, the importance of pilot-scale testing of capture technologies, the impacts of capture systems on water use, CCS on biofuels production as a negative emissions opportunity and others.

Ron was formerly a Senior Engineer contracting to the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). At NETL, Ron supported greenhouse gas emissions mitigation research, development and demonstration programs. This included support for DOE programs all along the commercialization pathway, from process concept through demonstration.

Ron’s academic background is in Chemical Engineering.
