WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday, in his first State of the Union address, President Trump highlighted American energy security, production, and growth of the sector as a priority for his administration. 

U.S. Energy Association Executive Director, Barry Worthington, issued the following statement:

"When President Donald Trump addresses Congress and the nation Tuesday, we can expect to hear much of the same from last year when it comes to energy policy.

When the newly elected President Trump spoke at a Joint Session of Congress last February he said, "we have undertaken a historic effort to massively reduce job-crushing regulations."

The United States Energy Association (USEA) is inviting prospective organizations through this request for proposal (RFP) to submit proposals for development and application of a current state network simulation model for Kenya on which to perform power system studies to improve system reliability and security for the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).  This is an activity implemented by USEA under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Energy Utility Partnership Program (EUPP). 

The United States Energy Association (USEA) is inviting prospective organizations or individuals through this Request for Proposal (RFP) to submit proposals for conducting the training on Substation Operation & Maintenance “Train-the-Trainers” Series for the Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  This is an activity implemented by USEA under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Power Africa Initiative.

Through funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) South Asia Regional Initiative for Energy Integration (SARI/EI) project, USEA organized a five-day executive exchange for Nepal members of parliament residing in provinces with planned large hydro facilities, and executives from the Investment Board Nepal, which is the lead organization in large hydropower development.  Vietnam shared their experiences in the planning, appraisal, financing, development, risk mitigation, structuring, and operations involved in large hydropower production.

Steve Mitnick serves as editor-in-chief of Public Utilities Fortnightly and is president of its parent company Lines Up, Inc., based in Arlington, Virginia. He also authors the weekly digital magazine This Half Fortnight from PUF.

 

He previously served in the leadership teams of energy consulting practices at McKinsey & Co., Marsh & McLennan, and PHB/Hagler Bailly. Previously he served as president of the transmission developer Conjunction LLC, and chief energy advisor to the Governor of New York.

 

His book, Lines Down: How We Pay, Use, Value Grid Electricity Amid the Storm, was published in June 2013.

 

He has testified before utility regulatory commissions of six states, the District of Columbia, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and in Canada. Early in his career, he served on the faculty of Georgetown University and taught undergraduate microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics. He has an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and two BS degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Before launching M2M Advisors, Mourad was Senior Vice President of Government Relations for Tellurian, Inc. and Cheniere Energy, where she played a key role in securing the first US LNG export permit in the continental US. She was President of Abraham & Roetzel LLC and a Partner at The Abraham Group LLC, both founded by former Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham.


From January 2001 to February 2005, Mourad served as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Energy, representing the Department of Energy at high-profile international events, including G-8 Energy Ministerial Conferences, the North American Initiative, the Liquefied Natural Gas Summit, the International Partnership for a Hydrogen Economy, and the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum.


Her career began on Capitol Hill working for Congressman Sonny Bono (R-CA) and his successor, Congresswoman Mary Bono (R-CA), then Senator Spencer Abraham (R-MI).

Joseph McMonigle is president and co-founder of The Abraham Group LLC, an
international strategic consulting firm focused on the energy sector and based in
Washington, D.C. He is also a senior energy analyst with Hedgeye Potomac Research.

He is also a Principal at Blank Rome Government Relations.

Mr. McMonigle is the former Vice Chairman of the Paris-based International Energy
Agency, an international organization of oil consuming countries, whose core mission is
to work for stable energy markets and respond with joint measures to meet oil supply
emergencies. He also served concurrently as U.S. Representative to the IEA (2003-
2005).

In addition, Mr. McMonigle served as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Energy, a
cabinet department with a $23 billion budget and over 100,000 federal and contractor
employees (2001-2005).

Mr. McMonigle also served as the American co-chair of the U.S.-China Energy
Cooperation Working Group and led DOE’s bilateral activities and engagement with
China.

Before joining the Bush Administration, Mr. McMonigle was the administrative assistant
and general counsel to a United States Senator. He is also an attorney and member of the
Energy Bar Association as well as the Pennsylvania and District of Columbia bars.

Kathy Nelson is the Chairwoman of the Board of Utilities Technology Council (UTC), a global trade association dedicated to serving critical infrastructure providers. Nelson has served on the UTC Board of Directors for eight years - as Chair of Rural Issues Committee, Chair of Spectrum Committee, Chair of the Public Policy Committee for three years, and Secretary/Treasurer and Vice Chair before becoming the first Chairwoman in the UTC’s 70-year history.

 

Nelson is a Principal Telecommunications Engineer at Great River Energy, a not-for-profit cooperative that provides wholesale electric service to 28 distribution cooperatives in Minnesota.

 

She has worked at Great River Energy for more than 24 years, after graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from North Dakota State University. Her area of focus is in wireless systems design, specifically supervisory control and data acquisition, and land mobile radio communications. 

 

In 2016, Nelson received the Electric Power Research Institute Technology Transfer Award for her work related to a field area network research project.

 

Nelson has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers since 1991 and is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
