Robert Pritchard discussed the circumstances in Australia today with relatively high domestic prices for natural gas and electricity; the issues regarding LNG exports; various exports; coal exports; the current and future circumstances on renewables and use of nuclear power.

Pritchard specializes in International Energy Policy and Strategy. He was Founding Chairman of the Section on Energy and Resources Law of the International Bar Association.

He is a frequent speaker and author on both Australian and global energy policy issues.

The Midwest Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (MRCSP) large-scale demonstration project recently achieved the net CO2 storage of 1,000,000 metric tons in the CO2-EOR fields in Northern Michigan. This briefing will discuss how lessons learned from this successful program can be used to move CCUS towards deployment in appropriate settings. In addition to providing key aspects of the program, the speakers will discuss how the MRCSP research is impacting new projects in the USA and globally to build technical capacity.

Ms. Cumming is a Project Manager at Battelle, an independent research and development organization. She has managed national and international collaborative research projects to advance carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies through assessment of technical, risk, and other factors. She has performed outreach and project development activities for five CCS field projects in the Midwestern U.S. Her experience gained from flagship initiatives such as the Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnerships and the Carbon Storage Assurance Facility Enterprise, as well as CCS Capacity Building Trust Fund projects in China and Mexico, has given her a deep appreciation for science driven innovation and collaboration. She is currently the project manager for the Mid-Atlantic U.S. Offshore Carbon Storage Resource Assessment Project, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Carbon Storage Program to improve the effectiveness and reduce the costs of carbon storage.

Ms. Cumming earned her Bachelor’s degree in Geology from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio.

Juan A. B. Belt is a Senior Associate at the Center for International and Strategic Studies (non-resident), a Senior Fellow at the Public Utilities Research Center at the University of Florida, and is an independent consultant.  His most recent paper Cost Benefit Analysis of Power Sector Reform in Haiti won the 2018 International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER) Distinguished Scholar Award and was ranked the top submission among 85 by the Copenhagen Consensus Center under the Haiti Priorise program.  He has over 45 years of experience as a senior economist and manager acquired at the US Agency for International Development, (USAID), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, and a number of management consulting firms and private investors.  His last job before retiring from USAID was Director of the Infrastructure and Engineering office of USAID/Washington, where among other things he supported clean energy programs worldwide.
