Brian Kooiman is a Senior Associate at The Ad Hoc Group. Brian incorporates his experience with regulated markets, electricity systems, demand response, energy storage, zero-emission vehicles, and gamification to develop client strategies for product and regulatory engagement.

Prior to joining The Ad Hoc Group, Brian was an Experts Market Analyst on OhmConnect's Market Development and Operations team. At OhmConnect, Brian had responsibilities that included regulatory advocacy, partnership building, revenue origination, and energy market operations. In his time with OhmConnect, Brian saw the company user base grow from thousands to hundreds of thousands of customers all participating in demand response.

Brian received his Master of Public Policy (MPP) with a focus on Resources, Environment, and Energy from Stanford University. Brian also attended Stanford University as an undergraduate, where he double-majored in Civil Engineering and Economics. Brian lives in Minnesota with his wife and two daughters.

Natalie Mims Frick is a Deputy Department Leader and Energy Policy Researcher in the Energy Markets and Policy Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab). Among the projects she is leading are a new, multi-lab initiative to advance equity in grid planning, guidance on distribution equity analysis, and technical assistance on virtual power plants. Previously, she was the Energy Efficiency Director at the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and a Senior Consultant at Rocky Mountain Institute. Ted Ko is an internationally recognized expert on energy policy. He has provided testimony on the role of distributed energy resources in building an equitable, resilient energy system to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Congress, and more than a dozen U.S. states. His unique ability to bridge the technical, business and policy domains comes from his diverse background in nonprofit and private sector energy ventures, as well as more than a decade at Yahoo! and other Internet companies as a software engineer and product manager for tens of millions of users.

As the global lead for policy and government affairs at energy storage market leader Stem, Ted led the company at the forward edge of nearly every major storage policy development in North America, from deployment targets and incentives to interconnection and aggregation. Ted also authored Stem’s “Clean Resilience Roadmap,” a policy framework to help utility commissions structure their approach to building resilient grids. Ted also co-founded the nonprofit Clean Coalition and wrote and influenced dozens of bills and regulatory decisions across a range of distributed energy topics. 

Ted earned a B.S. and M.S. in computer science from MIT and an MBA in sustainable management from Presidio Graduate School. He lives in Denver, Colorado with his family.
