Turkmenistan to Increase Electricity Supply to Afghanistan - The Turkmen Energy Ministry will sign additional agreements with Afghanistan to increase the electricity supply and to extend until December 31, 2013 the previously signed contracts, an official Turkmen source said on Monday.  It is about extending contracts signed with the Ministry of Energy and Water of Afghanistan contracts dated March 7, 2002 on the export of electricity.  Over-limit amounts of electricity exported to Afghanistan from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011 will be formalized...Source: TurkishWeekly.net
 
Afghan power deal on track - Officials still regard the work of two Timaru companies on an electricity generation facility in Afghanistan as a "low risk", despite increased threats from the Taleban.  The partnership of Washdyke-based Alpine Energy subsidiary NetCon and Sustainable Energy Services International (SESI) won the contract to construct a hybrid solar-and-diesel power facility in Bamiyan City, Afghanistan.  However, yesterday the Taleban- who claimed responsibility for the deaths of five New Zealand soldiers this month - warned of further attacks on the 140-strong Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Bamiyan province.....Source:  Stuff.co.nz

Korea, Kazakhstan agree to expand cooperation in energy, plant, atomic power - South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev celebrated the ground breaking for a joint power plant project in the Central Asian nation Thursday, pledging to further expand cooperation in energy, plants and atomic power.  The $4 billion project to build a coal-fired power plant in the southern city of Balkhash, about 680 kilometers south of the capital Astana, is the biggest-ever joint project between the two countries since they opened diplomatic relations two decades ago......Source: Yonhapnews.co.kr
 
Eastern Kazakhs to supply hydro-power to south by 2018-  A project to string high-voltage power lines between eastern and southern Kazakhstan could be complete by 2018... The hearings’ topic was the environmental impact of installing power lines starting from the Shulbin hydro-power station in eastern Kazakhstan. If approved, the Shulbin (Semei)-Aktorgai-Taldykorgan-Alma power lines would supply electricity from the east to the south. Kazakhstan launches construction of Balkhash thermal power plant- A laying ceremony by Balkhash TPP construction was held in Astana using in television space bridge with the participation of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak. "We give the nod to start the construction," Nazarbayev said at the ceremony. He noted that the need for the TPP construction is due to consumption growth resulting in a shortage of electricity in the southern region of Kazakhstan, where 40 per cent of the population resides......Source: Trend.az

Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan and Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Hon'ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by H.E. Uzbekistan plans ADB modernization loan for Takhiatash thermal plant - In 2013, Uzbekistan plans to raise a loan of Asian Development Bank (ADB) of about $200 million for a project to modernize Takhiatash thermal power plant (TPP) with the provisional project cost of $330 million, a governmental representative told Trend on Thursday.  According to the source, the government and ADB management has already reached a preliminary agreement on the financial assistance of the Bank in the implementation of this project.....Source: Trend.az
