United States Energy Association Releases New Report on Digital Growth and Regional Security in the Western Balkans

Washington, D.C.—The United States Energy Association (USEA) today published a new Report by Senior Director William L. Polen, Powering the Digital Economy: Energy Security and Investment in the Western Balkans. The report looks at how artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and surging data center demand are doubling electricity consumption worldwide, and it lays out five major hurdles for energy systems in the Western Balkans, ranging from aging coal plants to internal transmission bottlenecks. Ultimately, the publication details how closer ties with the U.S. can bring in private capital, liquefied natural gas, and advanced grid-enhancing technologies to help the region modernize its grids and meet future growth.
