USEA President & CEO Statement on Energy, Interior Nominations & NEC Establishment
USEA President & CEO Mark W. Menezes today issued the following statement in response to Governor Doug Burgum being nominated to lead the Department of the Interior and Chris Wright being nominated to lead the Department of Energy, and the establishment of the National Energy Council:
“The United States Energy Association offers its sincerest congratulations to Governor Burgum and Mr. Wright for being nominated to lead the Departments of Interior and Energy. These departments do critical work to address our nation’s energy and environmental challenges,” says Menezes, who is the immediate past Deputy Secretary of the United States Department of Energy.
“As we navigate this complex and dynamic energy landscape, it's clear that collaboration, innovation, and a long-term perspective are essential. As an organization serving as a convening resource to foster the advancement of the entire energy sector and a promoter of affordable, reliable, and accessible energy in the US and abroad, we look forward to working with them when confirmed. And we thank our partners in the Biden-Harris Administration for their service and dedication.”
“I would also like to acknowledge the importance of the planned establishment of a National Energy Council, which focus includes the permitting, production, regulation, and generation of all forms of energy in the United States,” Menezes added. “Global geopolitical tensions, such as the ongoing conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, and natural disasters at home further emphasize the urgency of energy independence and the need to fortify our reserves. Strengthening our domestic energy production is crucial and necessary for reducing the cost of energy domestically and ensuring global security and economic prosperity.”
