USEA congratulates Mike Sommers as new head of American Petroleum Institute
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, USEA-member American Petroleum Institute selected Mike Sommers, president and CEO of private equity giant, American Investment Council, to lead the oil and gas industry trade group.
Sommers will replace Jack Gerard who will retire in August.
U.S. Energy Association Executive Director, Barry Worthington, congratulates Sommers, and in a statement said,
“American Petroleum Institute is a long-time member of the USEA Board of Directors, and Jack Gerard has been a great friend. While succeeding him will be a challenge, I believe Mike Sommers is a great choice to lead the industry at such a critical time.
“We are in an energy transition that requires strong leadership and someone who understands the various facets of our sector.
“Between our continued reliance on oil and natural gas, which powers and propels our economy, to our country’s movement toward more innovative ways to produce energy, API requires the experience and drive of someone like Mike Sommers.
“Mike has been at the epicenter of politics, business, industry and economic development. He appears perfectly positioned to advance the goals and work of the oil and gas industry.
“As a partner of API, we offer ourselves as a resource to Mike Sommers and look forward to working together.”
