Sustainability report: CASA electricity import project flawed, says reportPakistan is better off generating its own electricity than importing electricity through CASA-1000MW project, says a research study conducted by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).  The research termed the import project flawed and said that it will provide power for only seven months.  The CASA 1000 project aims to transmit energy from Kyrgyz Republic and Republic of Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan through a 700km electricity transmission line, the longest ever. Gas from TAPI likely to flow in five years: OfficialGas from the ambitious Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is expected to start flowing into energy-starved India in another five years, official sources said.  India in May signed the gas sales-purchase agreement for the $7.6 billion gas pipeline project that is to begin in Turkmenistan and pass through Afghanistan and Pakistan before terminating in India.... He said that the process of selecting the consortium, funding of the 1,680-km pipeline and other aspects will take around a year.... Source: Tribune.com.pk

Kazakhstan to decide on nuclear power plant in 2012Kazakhstan's government is to decide by the end of this year whether to build a nuclear power plant, according to the head of state nuclear company Kazatomprom, Vladimir Shkolnik. Construction of the plant will fill a growing energy deficit in the rapidly industrialising west of the country, but it is a controversial decision given Kazakhstan's legacy as the main Soviet nuclear testing ground.   For several years Kazatomprom has been in talks with its Russian counterpart Rosatom over plans to build a nuclear reactor in the remote western town of Aktau.......Source: Bne.eu

Aman Tentiyev: Russia will allocate a credit at 2.5 percent per annum to construct Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power station -1 in Kyrgyzstan - Russia will allocate a credit at 2.5 percent per annum to construct Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power station -1 after conducting a feasibility study,” Electric Stations JSC’s director general Aman Tentiyev told 24.kg news agency. According to him, until September, 15 the parties should sign an agreement and ratify it. “Then Russia must invest in the authorized capital of Kambarata-1 CJSC. The money will be used for a tender to identify the company which will prepare a feasibility study. When the project sum is determined, Russia will allocate a credit at 2.5 percent to CJSC. Sughd province to face energy cuts in the next two daysIn the next two days, August 22-23, Sughd province will face electricity cuts, press service of the Administration of Sughd Province reports.  "The South-North high-voltage power line will be closed for repair from 8:00 till 17:00 local time," the source reported.  Therefore, the administration of the province urged the population of the area to use alternative energy sources during this period. As reported to AP by the Barqi Tojik, limited energy supply is linked to repair works at the South-North and other power lines. U.S. companies seek incentive of Turkmenistan to participate in TAPI project - U.S. companies seek an incentive of Turkmenistan in order to participate in the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) pipeline project, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake told reporters during his visit to Central Asia.  "Many American companies are very interested in participating," he said adding that the road show will be going to the United States but also other countries as well.....Source: Trend.az

Uzbekistan to begin electricity metering modernization in 2013 - Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company in early 2013 will begin modernizing the metering system of electricity in the domestic sector of Uzbekistan, Uzbekenergo chairman Batyr Teshabaev said on Tuesday during an international seminar in Tashkent. According to the Uzbekenergo, a project worth $802 million provides for introduction of an automated system for monitoring and metering of households in all twelve regions.
