Washington, DC—USEA this week released a new episode of their in-house podcast, USEA’s Global Briefing, that highlighted the situation in Syria one year after the fall of the Assad regime and outlined energy and economic opportunities.

In this episode, USEA welcomed Sameer Saboungi, Managing Director of the U.S.-Syria Business Council. Saboungi provided an exclusive perspective on the current landscape and recent developments and what they could mean for the future. This episode coincided with the recent repeal of the Caesar Act as a part of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, clearing a major legal barrier for renewed economic activity.

"The repeal of the Caesar Act fundamentally changes the calculation for U.S. and international firms looking to participate in Syria’s recovery," said USEA President & CEO Mark Menezes. “At USEA, we advocate for the advancement of energy for all at home and abroad, and this new era of relations between the United States and Syria is ripe for opportunities in the energy sector.”
