Biography: 

As Managing Assistant General Counsel, Kari Valley oversees a team of attorneys and legal professionals supporting the system planning work at Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO). Kari and her team represent MISO before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on issues related to the development of the annual MISO Transmission Expansion Plan, cost allocation for transmission system investments, resource adequacy, generator interconnection, and similar matters. Prior to joining MISO, Kari served as Assistant General Counsel for Xcel Energy, representing the company before the Minnesota and South Dakota Public Utilities Commissions and the North Dakota Public Service Commission on matters including general rate cases, rate rider petitions, resource plans, certificates of need, and site permits for new generating facilities. Kari began her legal career at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General, representing the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Kari received her undergraduate degree from Hamline University, and her masters and law degrees from the University of Minnesota.
