FECM Tribal Informational Briefings #2: Capacity Building for Repurposing Energy Assets

Join us for a discussion of Capacity Building for Repurposing Energy Assets in/near Tribal lands as Dr. Bhima Sastri discusses across government efforts to repurpose and transition energy assets to meet administration goals to decarbonize the electric sector and the economy. This briefing will present work being done by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) and the Interagency Working Group on Coal and Power Plant Communities and Economic Revitalization (Energy Communities IWG) on transitioning retired energy assets and is expected to discuss challenges in energy asset transition and workforce development for communities that have retired or soon-to-be-retired energy assets, including mines.

This is the second in a series of five briefings meant to introduce Tribal communities to the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy & Carbon Management. This series is in response to consistent feedback from multiple tribal forums co-hosted by DOE and USEA, with the purpose of connecting tribal communities to DOE experts to:

1. empower the Tribes with fossil energy and carbon management resources to gain full access to available funding and incentive opportunities.

2. accelerate the Tribes’ pivot towards clean energy while developing their vast energy and carbon management potential.
