David Mohler is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Clean Coal and Carbon Management within the Office of Fossil Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy.  He is responsible for the DOE’s R&D program in advanced fossil energy systems, large demonstration projects, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and clean coal technology deployment.

Previously, Mr. Mohler served as senior vice president and chief technology officer for Duke Energy.

Mr. Mohler has operational experience in both nuclear and fossil power generation, as well as experience in corporate marketing, human resources and business development.  He earned a B.A. from Indiana University, a B.S. from the University of the State of New York at Albany, an M.A. from Xavier University of Cincinnati, and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Kimberly S. Greene

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Southern Company

As chief operating officer, Kim Greene is responsible for oversee­ing the Southern Company system’s operations, which includes genera­tion, transmission, engineering and construction services, system plan­ning, and research and environmental affairs, as well as Southern Power and Southern Wholesale Energy.

Greene began her career at Southern Company in 1991, progressing through various areas of engineering, operations and finance. She spent eight years at Southern Company subsidiary Southern Energy Inc., now NRG, working in the areas of finance, struc­turing, trading and asset management.

In 2007, Greene joined the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as chief financial officer and chief risk officer. Her responsibilities included overseeing budgeting, plan­ning and reporting of nearly $12 billion in revenue and expenses, designing and implementing new wholesale rate designs, and developing enterprise risk manage­ment processes. While at TVA, she also served as group president of strategy and external relations and as chief generation officer, responsible for more than 30,000 megawatts of coal, natural gas, hydro and renewable power generation.

In 2013, Greene returned to Southern Company as presi­dent and CEO of Southern Company Services. In that role, she was responsible for overseeing the company’s information technology, human resources, supply chain management, marketing and program management, as well as SouthernLINC Wireless, Southern Company’s wireless tele­communications provider, and Southern Telecom, the compa­ny’s wholesale fiber optic network provider. Greene was named execu­tive vice president and chief oper­ating officer in March 2014.

A native of Knoxville, Tennessee, Greene earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering science and mechanics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She earned a master’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in business administration from Samford University. In 2011, Greene completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Greene is a member of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) board of directors and recently served as EPRI board chair. In addition, she serves as a member of the Valero Energy Corporation board of directors.

Greene serves on the executive committee of the University of Tennessee College of Engineering board of advisors and as a member of the advisory board for the University of Alabama at Birmingham master of advanced safety engineering and management pro­gram. She is a member of the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame, Dean’s Advisory Board for UAB School of Engineering and a recipient of the University of Tennessee’s Distinguished Alumna Award.

Clay Sell is president of Hunt Energy Horizons, the renewable energy subsidiary of Hunt Consolidated, Inc., a Dallas-based energy, real estate, and investment corporation controlled by Ray L. Hunt. Hunt Energy Horizons develops projects from early stage through construction and into operation and is committed to a long-term operational presence in its chosen markets. Today, Hunt Energy Horizons is developing hydropower, solar and wind generating stations in Chile and Costa Rica.

Sell joined Hunt from the U.S. Department of Energy where he served from 2005 to 2008 as Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Energy. From 2003 to 2005 Sell worked in the White House as a Special Assistant to President George W. Bush, serving on the staff of the National Economic Council and in the Office of Legislative Affairs, where he coordinated the development and implementation of the administration's energy policy. Sell also previously held senior staff positions with the Committee on Appropriations in the United States Senate and with U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry of Texas.

Sell is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and Texas Tech University. He and his family reside in Dallas, Texas. He also serves on the board of Fritz Industries, a company specializing in applied chemistry and manufacturing of components largely for the oil & gas industry.

Donald R. Hoffman has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering and Science.  He served in the US Nuclear Submarine Navy as a Senior Reactor Operator and Engineering Officer from 1970 – 1979.  He was the Manager in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Licensing and Technical Specifications Department reviewing License Applications and Technical Specifications for more plants in the US licensing post TMI from 1980 – 1985. 

Donald founded EXCEL Services Corporation (EXCEL) in 1985 to provide specialized professional services to nuclear utilities and regulatory authorities in the areas of licensing and regulatory support. In the thirty-one years since the formation of the company, EXCEL has become globally recognized as the premier supplier of licensing, regulatory, engineering, technical, operations and critical infrastructure services.

Donald is a Past President of the American Nuclear Society (ANS) and a past member of the ANS’s Board of Directors.  At ANS, he held every major leadership office and was chair of many of the organization’s committees.  He also served as a former member of the Secretary of Commerce’s Civil Nuclear Trade Advisory Committee and has been appointed again for the 2017 – 2018 term.  He has also held senior advisory positons in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA), and the World Nuclear Association.

He is the current President of Eagle Alliance, a US grassroots organization that represents all facets of Nuclear Science and Technology.  He is on the Board of Directors of the European Nuclear Society; serves on numerous IAEA Committees and Task Forces for New Nuclear Build and Current Nuclear Fleet Safety and Operational Issues; is the Vice Chair of the World Nuclear Association Cooperation in Reactor Design, Evaluation and Licensing (CORDEL) Group; is Chair of the Virginia Nuclear Energy Consortium Authority (VNECA) working with the Governor of Virginia to promote Virginia as a premiere nuclear state; and was the founding Co-Chair of the ANS’s Special Committee on Nuclear in the States, and is now the President/CEO of Sensible Energy Matters to America (SEMA), an organization he founded to ensure the state and federal lawmakers appropriately value nuclear in the present and future energy mix and develop a sensible approach for the overall energy policy.

Joseph M. (Joe) Naylor, 56, is vice president of Policy, Government and Public Affairs for Chevron Corporation, a position he has held since April 2016. He is responsible for U.S. and international government relations, all aspects of communications, and the company’s worldwide efforts to protect and enhance its reputation.

Previously Naylor served as vice president, Strategic Planning, for Chevron Corporation and was responsible for advising senior corporate executives in setting strategic direction for the company, allocating capital and other resources, and determining operating unit performance measures and targets.

In order to identify areas of support to increase the Kenya Electricity Generating Company’s (KenGen) generation of electricity from geothermal energy, representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and U.S. – East Africa Geothermal Partnership (EAGP) will be traveling to Kenya in order to meet with KenGen executive leadership and Geothermal Resource Development teams in Nairobi and Naivasha.
