Mr. Scott leads the commercial global business development activities, including the sales, and marketing and communications functions for all NuScale products and services in the U.S. and abroad. Scott joins NuScale with an extensive business development background and mort than 40 years of professional experience in the nuclear sector including in business development, construction management , and the startup and operation of nuclear power plants.

Formally, Mr. Scott was the Senior Vice President – Global Sales, Deputy of Global I&C Business Unit for Framatome is co-responsible for the global P&L within the group and a global footprint of more than 2000 staff. Prior to Framatome, Scott was a SVP and the Chief Nuclear Officer for Schneider Electric, responsible for the company’s global nuclear organization with offices and facilities globally. Notably - responsible for one of the largest Digital Control Room efforts in nuclear, delivering eight new units in China - consisting of Control Room Design, Safety and Non-Safety Controls Systems.

Mr. Scott was the General Chair of American Nuclear Society’s NPIC & HMIT 2017 conference.

He has more than 40 years’ experience in managing nuclear utility contracts globally, including vast expertise in executive management, licensing and compliance; M&A; I&C design; both in startup and operation. Before accepting this position, Scott served as the VP of Invensys’s nuclear business in North America, responsible for business development, strategy, risk management, governance, and project execution. Before joining Invensys, he was President of CRS Engineering, a multi-discipline engineering and design-consulting firm.

Scott is an active member of the NEI Executive Committee for Digital I&C. He was appointed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to chair a taskforce on harmonizing digital licensing issues globally and the University of Tennessee Nuclear Engineering Program Advisory Board.

Scott holds a BSEE from the University of California, Irvine, and began his career as an I&C technologist for Ontario Hydro, where he was involved in commissioning and start-up of four CANDU units at the Pickering Nuclear Power Station in Ontario, Canada.

Mary is a Computer Engineer with a major in Computer Networks, and she has a master’s degree in information technologies (IT) with a mention in Digital Transformation and Innovation and another master’s in business management. She has Diplomas in Computer Security, network internetworking, Digital Transformation and Data Science. Her professional career spans more than 20 years, in which she has led work in the areas of IT and Information Security, with extensive work in Computer Security, Information Security, Industrial Cybersecurity, Information Management Projects, Risk Management, and Incident Management, in private and public institutions, especially across the breadth of the power sector.

Mary has managed several information security and industrial cybersecurity projects, including the most relevant: implementation of the Information Security Management System, strengthening of the CSIRT, implementation of Incident Management, and implementation of a Cybersecurity scheme for CELEC EP SCADA systems.

Mary was part of the multidisciplinary team for developing the National Strategy for Cybersecurity of Ecuador. Mary Vargas is the coordinator of the Industrial Cybersecurity Center in Ecuador, Coordinator for Cybersecurity of Ecuador in Ecuacier (Energy Integration Commission of the Regional-Ecuador), and is part of the cybersecurity team of the CIER (Energy Integration Commission Regional).

Mary has participated as a panelist and speaker in important national and international forums and conferences. In 2022, she was awarded first place as IT Leader winner in the category of “Outstanding Leader in Information Security” carried out by IT Ahora Magazine and PwC.

Director of Research and Development Future Nuclear

Steve Chengelis is the Director of the Future Fleet at EPRI, the Electric Power Research Institute, focusing on research that supports the near-term deployment of advanced reactors and the utilization of nuclear energy to meet a clean energy future. Prior to his current role, Chengelis was the Director of the Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Welding and Repair Technology Center (WRTC). The Department identifies and develops technologies that can reliably and cost-effectively examine and characterize material changes in nuclear components, as well as develops and tests advanced materials, joining, and repair technologies for nuclear plant applications. Previously, Chengelis led the Strategy and Execution department for the nuclear sector at EPRI. His responsibilities included management of sector strategic planning activities, quality and project management, finances, and overall sector operations. Also, he was the Executive Director of the Member & Technical Services nuclear sector. In that role, he was responsible for technology transfer and growing the global collaborative for EPRI’s nuclear-specific research activities, as well as shaping and executing the nuclear global market strategy. Chengelis joined EPRI in 2013 as a Technical Advisor for the nuclear sector. Prior to joining EPRI, Chengelis worked for Babcock and Wilcox Nuclear Energy (BWXT). Chengelis originally joined B&W as a field service engineer and subsequently held positions of increasing technical, commercial, and strategic responsibility. Chengelis received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering with a minor in business and mathematics from Ohio University, and a master’s degree in business administration, with a specialty in finance, from Drexel University. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Lean Six Sigma certified green belt.
