USEA Executive Director to give keynote address to U.S.-China Energy Law and Trade Forum at Tulane University

WASHINGTON, D.C. — USEA Executive Director, Barry Worthington, will deliver the keynote address to the U.S. China Energy Law and Trade Forum at Tulane University on November 18.

The forum will bring together global leaders from the public and private sector to discuss areas of cooperation between the U.S. and China on clean energy development, trade, technology exchanges, and public private partnerships.

“Both the U.S. and China are trying to meet rising global demand for energy, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy security, and advancing technological innovation,” Worthington said. “Both countries need to examine the technology and trade arrangements to help each other meet those goals. The United States hasn’t invested in China’s energy sector in any significant way to date, but the two countries are linked in a cooperative way.”

China’s National Energy Administration has set ambitious clean energy development targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also to reduce national poverty. Chinese President Xi Jinping has said increasing access to renewable electricity can help yank more than 70 million of his citizens out of poverty, and boost the economy.

Director of the U.S.-China Energy and Environmental Technology Center at Tulane University, S. T. Hsieh, PhD, said, “The relationship between the two countries on energy development is evolving. This forum will illustrate to what degree the U.S. and Chinese public and private sectors can work together.”
