Biography: 

Neil Kern is a Technology Development Manager in the Duke Energy Emerging Technology Office. In this role, he is responsible for assessing and selecting new and emerging generation related technologies for further development and deployment. Current areas of focus for Neil include advanced power generation cycles, advanced water management technologies, and evaluating other systems and technologies pertaining to central stations.

Preceding this role Neil worked in the Generation and Regulatory Strategy Department at Duke where he supported regulatory filings and resource plan development. He was responsible for managing generation technology cost and performance data for the integrated resource planning process. In addition, he performed environmental policy impact analysis pertaining to new environmental regulations.

Neil also previously worked in the Strategic Engineering organization at Progress Energy prior to the merger with Duke Energy. He was responsible for strategic environmental and efficiency project identification and implementation with a focus on coal and gas applications. Neil earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Green Chemistry from North Carolina State University. Neil is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina.
