On December 11, 2019, USEA held a collaborative Workshop on Rare Earth Elements and Critical Mineral Production from Domestic Coal-Based Resources, co-hosted with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy (DOE-FE) in Washington, DC. The primary objective of the workshop was to identify and discuss how to build a pilot-to-commercial-size facility specifically designed for rare earth element (REE) extraction, and separation and recovery from domestic coal feedstocks.

The workshop was held in the Horizon Ballroom of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC, 20004. Guests included subject matter experts from industry, academia, national labs, and the federal government, all with experience in rare earth elements, critical minerals production, and coal. The agenda is posted on the right side of this page.

The program began with opening remarks from DOE-FE Management, followed by a series of 45-90 minute sessions consisting of presentations and group discussions with participants sharing their diverse ideas and perspectives.

As the United States Energy Association, we co-sponsored the event with DOE-FE.  USEA is a non-profit, non-advocacy, educational organization. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Littlefield at [email protected] or 202-312-1271.
