As part of the "Global Workshop on Clean Energy Development", funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Energy Association will hold a public briefing on the status of clean energy development in the participating countries.  The briefing will include presentations about each country's energy sector and clean energy development plans.  Topics will include:

  • Snapshot of the country’s energy sector
  • Renewable energy programs
  • Energy efficiency and conservation
  • Incentives and policies

Quest is one of the largest carbon capture and storage projects in North America, and the first CCS project on oil sands.  Bill Spence, Manager of Strategic Issues for Shell Upstream International, described the Quest project and also:

GE and its customer Houweling’s Tomatoes, a leading North American greenhouse grower, recently unveiled the first combined heat and power (CHP) greenhouse project in America that captures carbon dioxide (CO2) for use in plant fertilization. Using two of GE’s 4.36-megawatt (MW), ecomagination-qualified Jenbacher J624 two-staged turbocharged natural gas engines and a GE-designed CO2 fertilization system, the plant provides heat, power and CO2 to Houweling’s 125-acre tomato greenhouse in Camarillo, California.

These briefings have attracted a diverse audience from industry, government, and academia, and have highlighted developments in the CCS/CES arena related to specific projects, research and development, regulation, funding, and state and local actions.
